Dragon Bridge Da Nang with its lively winding dragon shape, not only connects the two banks of the Han River but also becomes a new proud symbol of the city.
Dragon Bridge crosses the Han River, linking Da Nang International Airport with the city’s coastal tourist areas. It plays a vital role in the city’s urban transportation infrastructure. With its modern and unique design, Dragon Bridge has become a must-visit landmark for travelers coming to Da Nang.
You can reach Dragon Bridge by taxi or motorbike. If you start from the My Khe Beach area, take Vo Nguyen Giap Street, turn left onto Vo Van Kiet Street, and continue straight until you arrive at the bridge. Alternatively, you can go along Tran Phu Street and then turn left to reach Dragon Bridge.
Dragon Bridge stretches a total length of 666 meters, with 5 main spans and 3 approach spans. It is 37.5 meters wide, accommodating 6 traffic lanes and 2 pedestrian lanes. The highlight of the bridge is its steel arch structure, shaped like a dragon, measuring 568 meters long and weighing nearly 9,000 tons.
It is the first single-arch steel bridge in Southeast Asia, designed by Ammann & Whitney Consulting Engineers in collaboration with the Louis Berger Group from the United States.
Beyond being a crucial transportation project, Dragon Bridge is also an architectural icon of the coastal city. Inspired by the Ly Dynasty’s dragon motif soaring towards the sea, the bridge symbolizes the harmonious blend of traditional culture and modern engineering.
Every weekend at 9:00 PM on Saturdays and Sundays, Dragon Bridge comes alive with spectacular fire and water performances. These shows captivate both locals and tourists, offering a truly awe-inspiring experience. For visitors to Da Nang, witnessing the fire-breathing dragon is an unmissable highlight of their trip.
The show begins with two rounds of fire-breathing, each lasting 9 bursts (18 in total), followed by three rounds of water sprays. Flames shoot tens of meters into the sky, creating a dazzling and magical scene that draws large crowds.
On the bridge itself: The closest and most direct vantage point. On weekend nights during the fire and water shows, traffic is restricted, allowing pedestrians to enjoy the performance right on the bridge. However, it’s best to stand a little farther from the dragon’s head to avoid getting wet during the water spray.
Tran Hung Dao Street: Located right beneath the dragon’s head, this spot offers an ideal distance-close enough for a clear view but far enough to ensure safety. Many roadside drink stalls here let you relax while enjoying the performance.
Bach Dang Street: Situated at the tail end of the bridge, Bach Dang Street offers a wider perspective. From here, you can watch the fire and water show while also admiring the romantic scenery of the Han River. Several cafés with balconies along this street provide an even better vantage point.
On a Han River cruise: A unique and romantic experience. From the cruise, you’ll get a panoramic view of Dragon Bridge and Da Nang’s sparkling skyline at night, especially during the fire and water performances.
Once visiting Dragon Bridge Da Nang, you will clearly feel the modern vitality of the coastal city. This is the ideal stopover, leaving an unforgettable mark on your trip to Central Vietnam.
